Asbestos Warning

The Buloke Shire Council, Loddon Shire Council and Central Murray Regional Waste Management Group would like to advise residents in the Shires of Buloke and Loddon that a more rigorous approach to inspecting loads being presented at landfills and transfer stations has commenced.

Concerns have been raised that some loads are hiding domestic quantities of asbestos. All residents need to be aware of the dangers associated with asbestos and be warned that any suspect loads will not be accepted at any Buloke or Loddon receival sites.

All domestic asbestos needs to be triple wrapped in sturdy plastic and be transported to sites that accept asbestos, this information can be found on the Environment Protection Authority website at www.epa.vic.gov.au. The safest disposal method is to employ an asbestos removalist.

The clamp down on inspections by Council staff has commenced with every load being inspected at the gate before being allowed to be deposited at the site. We appreciate residents support and patience in this matter. Any further queries can be directed to your local Shire Council office.
