What goes in your rubbish bin?

Waste 2

What goes in your recycling bin?

What goes in your green bin (Macedon Ranges only)

Did you know that 20% of waste sent to landfill could have been recycled?

Follow these easy steps to ensure you are recycling as much as you can!

  • Make recycling convenient! Set up a box or tub to collect your recycling next to your kitchen bin – this way no one will be tempted to throw away recyclable items.
  • Don’t bag your recycling – put all items in the bin loose. Recyclable materials that are placed in plastic bags are a safety hazard for recovery facility workers, so have to be sent to landfill.
  • Learn what you can and can’t put in your recycle bin so that you can recycle as much as possible! Putting incorrect items into recycling can mean that an entire truckload of recycling has to go to landfill. It’s also unpleasant for the people who work at material recovery facilities to sort through contamination.

Recycling Game

The LMWRRG has developed a recycling game to help kids (and grown ups too!) learn how to recycle and what items go in each bin. Play the game, compare your score and become a recycling champion!
